The Daily Beast

Director of Social Media | December 2017 - July 2019

  • Hired and directed the largest social team in Daily Beast history, managing four direct reports with round-the-clock, remote, on-call shifts, seven days a week, through several major transitions in leadership and staffing

  • Worked deeply with every single team in our 40+ newsroom, as well as our product and sales teams, creating communication and workflow strategies to alert the newsroom about social best practices, weekly reports of wins and guidance, trending search terms, and more

  • Creatively packaged all of the site's stories, exclusives, and products including membership content, podcasts, and newsletters, for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

  • Firmly established the awareness and usage of SEO in the newsroom, overseeing the development and implementation of a custom CMS SEO field for headlines, followed by trainings with editors, which led to optimized articles performing 50% better than ones with non-optimized headlines

  • Rebranded @thedailybeast’s Instagram and Story look, tone and strategy; designed Photoshop templates for my team to create daily social graphics across all platforms; grew Instagram following from 90K to 160K in over a year

  • Launched, moderated and created engagement strategy for The Binge, a closed Facebook group for fans of streaming TV and movie content, and gained 3K followers in the first two months

  • Verified the entire newsroom on Reddit's /r/politics subreddit, a first for any newsroom, so reporters could respond to users one on one. Also verified the newsroom on Facebook

  • Overhauled our influencer, partner, and news outreach efforts and process

  • Reported personally about gender, growing up in the South, and mental health, as well as wrote quick hits about trending news

  • Pitched and wrote social videos on timely topics, sometimes to-camera and live

  • Ran paid social ad campaigns for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Social Media Editor | June 2016 - November 2017

  • Worked demanding weekend and swing shifts as the only social editor on call to promote all of the site’s stories

  • Regularly provided live social coverage during high-stress events, including debates and conventions, State of the Union addresses, awards shows, and during intense breaking news events such as mass shootings and terrorist attacks

  • Was one of two-person social team who worked the entire 2016 election season, election day, and the months following

  • Grew Instagram from 60K to 90K followers by designing custom graphic templates, with one graphic becoming our highest-shared image on Facebook (82K likes; 71K shares at that time)

  • Pitched newsroom trending stories and worked with editors on how to best present their work socially

  • Created story packages for exclusives and long-form pieces

  • Managed two interns

  • Wrote, assigned, edited and produced stories

  • Managed all social platforms for the daily late-night satirical news show, singling out big moments from each episode in real time for social clips and designing memes

  • Strategized to grow awareness of new show (Facebook — 200K followers; Twitter — 80K followers)

  • Reacted socially in real time to major trending topics and show events (Neil deGrasse Tyson video & macro became most shared Facebook posts; gay marriage legalization macro was most shared social post on Comedy Central social accounts)

  • Took over all Comedy Central social accounts to provide behind-the-scenes footage on The Nightly Show premiere day

  • Coordinated promotion with high-profile guests like Bernie Sanders, Shonda Rimes, Cory Booker, Bill Nye, Janet Mock, Chance the Rapper, DeRay Mckesson

  • Monitored metrics and engagement, driving traffic to ComedyCentral.com video players

  • Sold each show's content (full episodes, clips, graphics, contests, etc.) in the brand's voice to their Facebook and Twitter accounts, and managed “The Colbert Report” Twitter account, growing it from 200K to 1M+ in less than one year

  • Coordinated four-month digital finale period of The Colbert Report, producing special legacy site pages and video mashups, including Under the Desk, running the Colbert Tumblr GIF account and building BuzzFeed lists

  • By myself, ran social and asset creation for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’s finale night, publishing and promoting its very last episode live (the top meme I made received 63K Facebook likes and 23K shares)

  • Served as first site copy writer and P.A. for the @midnight pilot season, working demanding overnight shift in order to publish new episodes
